Virtual globes with the most popular being Google Earth are solving the deficiencies of traditional GIS by looking into what GIS end users really like: simplicity, accessibility, immediacy, low cost. The vision for geo-browsers inverts the roles of Web browser where the earth itself is the browser. People are taking advantage of the freely available software, creating their own databases of information on anything from earth, and uploading them to an electronic blog. Despite their popularity, however, we are still in the very early stages of making business with virtual globes.
